First Saturday of July Train Running

Train Running in Early July - Part Two

What follows is the "second section" from this past Saturday's train running in the backyard at Fred's place.

A "double handful" of participants descended on the property for some good ole train running fun!

We are excited for Andrew who was able to run one of his latest acquisitions, this Soo Line road switcher.  You'll be able to follow his progress with this train later in this posting.

An abundance of interesting motive power made an appearance on the scene.

The many structures are now in place as evidenced by Golding Grains down in Rat Portage.

The Comber facility.

Hamer's Haven!

The depot which guards the tunnel entrance down in Rat Portage.

Fred, Marcel and Lawrence work on the car arrangements for this coming Saturday's session.

Robin listens in as Bernie showcases the size of the fish he caught while kayaking recently.

We find Moe in Craig Leigh with his consist blocked nicely.

His train is underway.

On the roll passing the icing platform.

It's a short manifest freight.

Colourful too!

This CNR van pulls up the rear.

On and beyond the ice house.

A video review of the action.

The diminutive switcher hauls its lading around the curve.

A triple dome tankcar catches this railfan's attention.

Bypassing Douglas Yard, named after our dispatcher, Doug Matheson.

Into the corner beyond the massive tree.

The rays of the sun catch the end car allowing it to glow beautifully in the early morning hours.

A must see video.

Through Northland.

Along the wye.

About to highball down the grade.

Still more video of Moe's progress.

Two trains on the trestles.

It's a "Speedy Gonzales"!

Nice looking wagons!

Lawrence's train captured on video camera.

A unit train is spotted to the west of Bell.

Finding the main.

This unit has seen a lot of work over time.

The conductor is hiding in the Ironwood Road caboose.

Onward to Wellington Lake and beyond.

The motion is caught on video by Railfan Hamer.

Pat has sent along the next few pictures.  In the image above we see Robin working his train in Glen Hammond as Bernie's consist climbs the grade out from the pedestrian crossing.

The new trackage and sidings at Spruce.

Moe follows Paul's passenger run.

At Wellington Lake.

The view from above shows a silver snake winding its way eastbound to Peter's Pond.

Pat has captured Bernie in the cab of his TH&B power.

Thanks, Pat, for those great shots!

We catch a glimpse of Marcel's massive locomotive.

A view of the front end.

A true beauty.

Let's take a video glimpse of this unit.

What have we here?

It's an incredible "service interruption" along RP&M rails.

Paul reminds us that we should always check the rails on the front property before running trains.

A quick inspection shows little damage.  The door leading out back from the cab demanded some attention.

Let's check out some video from the incident.

We'll nickname this "The Jungle Train"!

The MOW crew will have to be called in with their equipment to take care of this section of the line.

It's certainly "A bright, bright, bright...sunshiny day!"

Paul's spirits are lifted in relief that there was no loss of life in the incident.

Jungle video footage as Paul foots it outta there !

We were wondering when we would see this Soo Line darling!

Well, we found her at St. Helens.

Onward to Ironwood.

Red and white...

...like our Canadian flag!

Here's some red and white video.

Later on, she is found at the Fred Mills trestle.

Between the iron.

Trailing up the rear.

Some trestle video action.

Hey, here's Bernie.

Yet another gorgeous diesel engine.

Those bright yellow cars advertise the TH&B from miles away.

A nice billboard reefer following the triple dome.

It's a meet at Ironwood!

Let's catch the meet on video.

Bernie conducts some switching at this location.

Pat looks on!

Andrew passes along the fence line.

A big Bernie smile!

Switching video in Ironwood.

Here's the "Black Widow".

Indeed, an "all black" train.

Yet another meet is captured by this railfan.

Head end meets tail end.

Activity at Bell.

Video from Bell.

Robin in charge of his eastbound train.

A caboose dance.

Ore is on the move.

We thank Mr. Bill "Sn3" Scobie for his great paint job on this unit.

Following Robin's train brings me back to Ironwood territory.

Final video from the session.

Seeing as I have many more videos from the session, there will be a "Part Three" coming up later in the week.  We are excited to announce that our inaugural session of the season will take place next Saturday when we will run a narrow gauge operating session.

Barry sent me a video of an amazing chalk artist.  He uses the natural and man-made surroundings as his palette.  Once completed, the gentleman photographs the work in the knowledge that it will be washed away during the next rainfall.  His artwork brings joy to many in his community.  Copy and paste the link below to see a video I found of this artist similar to the one Barry sent my way.  Barry was wondering if there would be a garden railroad application somewhere here...using a more permanent medium of course.

Thanks for checking in, and stay safe everyone!
See ya soon, Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
