Awakening the Structures From Their Winter Hibernation and Other Things

Saturday. May the 11th in Ottawa brought a sunny day.  Photos by Mike, Malcolm and Bernie.

We were able to get over to Fred's for the great awakening of the structures from their winter hibernation.

First, we deal with the tarp.

Bernie holds the ladder while Garry has the power drill in reverse mode.

Lawrence ensures the holding strip stays up until all screws are removed.

The tarp is down...now for the plywood.

It comes down pretty quickly as well.

Revealing the structures following their long winter hibernation.

My blue gloves attest to the chill in the air at 9:00 AM.

Easter Island is alive and well...

...for the time being at least...that is before the ferns grow tall enough to obscure the artwork.

Fred's brother created the Easter Island statue as well as this lovely lady.

Jim Henson loaned us this little lad.

Bill Sn3 Scobie with a cool looking uncoupling tool!

Garry and Chris.

A meeting of the minds.

Henk leads the collaborative discussion on how we will operate the area around Bellamy which proved to be a bottleneck last season.

Garry lends a viewpoint on the matter.

Some freight cars are placed momentarily to help assist with the process..

Bill and Malcolm.

Lawrence listens in as Henk continues with a review of the discussion to ensure understanding on the part of the crew.

Steve listens attentively for he is one of the lads who works the software that creates the paperwork for our sessions.

Henk must have hit a perfect chord as Garry is all a-smile!

Chris under the canopy.

Bernie has borrowed the uncoupler from Bill.

Fred arrives home to find a great crew working things out beautifully.

Lawrence in the distance.

Bernie sent some images from the work session held earlier in the week.

We have moved the mainline along the back fence closer to the edge of the property.

We will be creating an eastern yard lead for Bell which will parallel the main.  Great idea Chris!

The work in process.

Looks like a sunny midweek day brought out the workers.

Fred and Paul.

Lawrence hard at work.

A skillful carpenter.

Measure twice...

...and cut once!

George joined in on the action.

Bernie blows the old leaves away.

We have solved many of the issues...at least we believe so.  Time will tell when we begin the train ops for yet another season.

Henk gathers us one more time saying..."Have we missed anything?  That was far too easy!"  Thanks for these last three pics, Malcolm!

Fun discussions for sure.

Along with plenty of laughter...because...as we all know...railroading is fun no matter what the scale!  See you soon when the ops begin!
