Some Unseen Steam Action

Steam Steals the Show!

Let's head back in time to our 7th session from last season.

I do have some residual images and videos from the session plus a very small handful from our third train ops day as well.

It's fun to peruse the stories from the summer as winter still has a hold on us even if the snowfall in our neighbourhood of the country has been minimal.

One of the many carrying cases brought out adorned with our group's beautifully designed logo.

Number 25 has been called into duty on this day.

Her running gear will see plenty of action in and around Douglas Yard.

This is Paul's locomotive.

Fred is ever so kind to allow us to "run what we brung" for each session!  😄

She's a looker, Paul!

Yet another variant for a carrying case.

Number 25 patrols Craig Leigh.

Meanwhile, my number 27 hits the iron out from its carrying case near the engine house.

St. Helens is getting a workout already in the early morning hours.

Hmmm...a variety of cars reside on the stock pen siding.  Bernie is my crewmate and we both are wondering about the placement of traffic on the near siding.

The cattle are wondering how in creation they are going to be able to breathe in that car!  Of course, we will line the appropriate car up to the two ramps.

Video work in the Mount!

Eastbound Train 312 hauls into Craig Leigh with the red aspect protecting the advancing crew.

Paul oversees all that goes on in Craig Leigh as the Yardmaster on this day.

Steve & Seanna have made up the crew of 302.  They will soon return from where they came aboard westbound Train 321, their final trick of the day.

312 announces its arrival on video.

The crew bypasses the big yard.

They will back into Douglas Yard in short order.

Number 25 continues to govern all things here.

More video footage around Douglas Yard.

Let's check out some other scenes around the railroad.  A baggage car is spotted nearby the depot in Spruce.  Later in the summer a new house track will have been created here.

Mark & Olie make an appearance.

As does Thomas!

With a combined years of railroading experience of - let's see - "many a year", this dynamic duo will find no issues with the various tasks at hand!  Heh heh!

I've snapped this screenshot from video taken a month or so earlier in session #3.

Chris must be in the house as his PEI Railroad steam locomotive graces the scene to the east of Bell.

Chris's efforts as seen on the video camera.

Still more screenshots from that day earlier in the summer finds Train 301 "at speed" passing in the shadows of "The Rockery".

Some vibrant cars are spotted in their mix!

Great variety too!

Helper service is provided by this delightful assistant.

Looks like Grant is in the room!

The scenes around "The Rockery" as captured on video tape.

Sticking with session #3 for a little while longer we spot Chris handling some chores in Nelson Yard aboard 302 assisting the RP&M crew momentarily.  He is crewing with Felicity and their train must have just arrived.

"Looks like some heavy ore traffic is in the mix!" Felicity thinks to herself.

The RP&M train continues with its work near the western throat of the yard.

Nelson Yard video reels.

Dilip & Doug will crew together aboard another RP&M train.

Mercer Siding is at ground level.  If trains have to wait here it is typically for a green signal to cross the junction and head into Nelson Yard...although they could be waiting for a meet with opposing traffic.

A variety of cars hang out in Spruce.

We head back to session #7 where we find this diminutive engine backing into the terminal area in Craig Leigh.

The stone-walled buildings offer up a lovely backdrop!

Passenger traffic appears to be heavy at the moment.

We find Steve & Seanna arriving the terminal area with freight that they will back into the yard seeing as the lower track was obviously occupied when they arrived Craig Leigh.

They pass the water tower.

Looking good.

Water tower video to the max!

They make their reverse move.

The track they are on is a recent addition in the past couple of years offering greater flexibility for the Craig Leigh Yardmaster to route traffic in and out of the yard.

Steve confers with Paul as to where he wants the train.

More video work here.

Train 323 heads away from Bell as Malcolm & Pat are about to finish working their third trick when they terminate the train in Firgrove.

White Pass number 14 steers clear of the interchange as it continues its westerly run.

Tank car heaven!

A lovely caboose has found its way to the crew lounge table.

The Sunset Route indeed!  Nice logo!

Moe relaxes post ops.

Felicity& Pat finish up their work in Peter's Pond.

The fishery and team track spurs spot a few cars.

It would appear a mixed train is working Mount St. Helens.

Pushing hard from the rear, number 22 will soon be reassembling its train.

An earlier shot of the mixed train on the ready track in Douglas Yard.

A passenger train backs into the terminal at Craig Leigh.

An engine greeting.

Pushing hard around the bend.

The arrival captured on video.

Passenger runs are just as enjoyable to handle as freights are.

Threading the needle between the ice house and the water tower.

Lovely!

Craig Leigh video.

Dilip reaches Bellamy aboard his passenger run.

Coming to a slow stop.

There we go!

Another view!

As captured on video.

Hi Felicity!

Thanks for your efforts on this day Mr. Rio Grande Southern!

Yessirree!

Time to put the engine to bed!

Going to bed video!

Pat & Bernie truly enjoyed their run - and their friendship!

Yum yum!

Here's Felicity!

Skipper Henk!

The one and only Dilip!

Love the railroad switchstand!

So cool!

Time to put the "special" structures indoors following the session.  Great Pat!

And...time to pack up the locomotives!  Wonderful, Moe!

Time for a smile!  Our handsome Paul!

Time for lunch!  Here's Bill & Andrew!

Thanks for checking in on this blog entry.
Here I am in a photo taken a few years back working the Sculptamold in on Doug's magnificent indoor layout.  On that day, Chris Lyon and I headed over to dispatcher Doug's place where we planted hundreds of trees we had prepared on a previous day.

Here's the same scene a couple of hours later.

Chris's amazing backdrop painting is in evidence beautifully in this "going away" image as the tail end passes the scene.

Many of the late Gaston Moreau's trees were planted later.  Here they are in styrofoam waiting their turn to adorn the layout!

As usual, we thank Father Fred (busily checking for wasps in his drink) for bringing us all together once again.
We'll see many of you at our OVAR meeting tomorrow evening.
Then it's time for hugs and kisses the next day - Valentine's Day!
Until then...we are the members of the OVGRS
