Season Shutdown

Our Seasonal Shutdown Session

It's "Workday Wednesday" for the final time this train running season.  With a rainy forecast for Saturday with three days of sun in advance, it was decided to take advantage of the sunny weather to close down the layout for another season.

The shutdown scenario involves putting all of the plastic car bins away, storing the structures, relocating the bar fridge and crew lounge cupboard into the dispatch booth, storing the countless umbrellas and taking down the canopy.

Lots of things to consider, lots to do...but we had lots of helping hands assisting on this Wednesday.  We wish to thank Fred, Doug Culham, Pat Brewer, Lawrence, Bernie, Moe, Robin and Mike for their assistance on this day.  Thanks also to those who offered to help but couldn't make it out.  You are appreciated as well!

Great call on packing things up on this sunny day, Fred!

Lots to organize.

Looking good there, Pat!

Doug's an umbrella man as well.

The storage bins find a winter home.

As does the lounge fridge.

Pat watches as Doug and Fred take down the cabinet.

The canopy's down!

Time for folding.

It's a naked lounge!

Lawrence's cleverly designed supports...each one numbered for the cause.

The skeletal framework over Craig Leigh.

Some structures share the shed with the bins and tool trolley.

The structures are stored.

Bernie and Doug create a shelf below the Northland Ore Dock.

The shelf will hold a number of structures as well.

Coming along.

A nice home.

Very creative.

Hard workers.

We squeeze 'em in...

...wherever we can!

With a large number of structures residing below...

...a tarp is put in place...

...offering protection from the elements of winter!

Looking down the line...

...from both ends of the terminal area.

Squeezed in just like Santa's toy sack!

Creating a marker line for the screws.

A handsome lad.

Almost out of reach, but Mike makes it!

Don't give Hamer a power tool...he gets too excited!

But...

...the job gets done!

Another of Santa's little helpers!

A dynamic duo!

Bernie basks in the sun!

We're ready for the winter season!

The tarp goes in...

...as we say farewell from another great season of train running!

Video from the morning.
The buzzing noise is from a generator where the workers are constructing the additions on the two houses along the back property line.

A second Video from the morning.

We thank Father Fred for hosting us for all the Saturday`s where the weather allowed.

We've enjoyed every moment trackside!
On behalf of Fred, "Stay safe and enjoy a wonderful off season everyone!"
All the best, Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
