Bernie's Pics From Saturday

Saturday's Session Through Bernie's Lens

Thanks to Bernie for sending along these images from last Saturday.

The weather was gorgeous along with delightful temperatures.

I'm even captured in some of these images!  Yikes!  I'm usually the "capturer"!

Trains 303 and 312 meet in Ironwood as Mike railfans the activity.  Pat and Paul are deep in the action reading their switch lists and glancing ahead of their locomotives.

Bernie has been busy making some new signs.  This Douglas Yard example is visible from far away!
(Click on any image to enlarge and click outside the image to return.)

The newly planted Anderson advertisement!

Pre-ops discussions abound all around the railroad.

Fred greets us all with some warm words of welcome.

Bernie has managed to capture this shot of the appropriate stock cars located at the appropriate spot in Mount St. Helens.

The railroad is a busy one as the participants work in eagerness preparing the session.

Pat takes a short breather in Ironwood.

Fred and Sid watch Pat and Paul as their train, 318, works Spruce trackage.

The sun's rays offer a great "haze" for our intrepid photographer as the crew aboard 301 work the facing spurs in Mount St. Helens.

Indeed, Barry and Andrew have had to run around their train in their first stop en route between Craig Leigh and Nelson Yard.

Passenger 2 has made its way to the lip just out from Ironwood.

The Nelson Yard crew in varying forms of deep thought!
Henk is wondering where the lions are and Bill is wondering about Henk who is wondering where the lions are.  (We thank singer/songwriter Bruce Cockburn for the inspiration!)

Sid and Marcel know where the lions are, but aren't telling!

301 has reached the "outer limits" of Nelson Yard and awaits clearance from the yardmaster for entry into the big track area.

Chris meets Mark in Bell...make that...IPP&W 327 meets RP&M 65 in Bell.  Pat is awaiting clearance out from Nelson Yard.

301's power arrives the eastern throat of the yard.

Upon 301's arrival, 312 will be cleared out behind the TH&B GP7.

Malcolm navigates the big curve into Nelson Yard having come off RP&M rails with Train Rat 70, the turn down to Rat Portage.

Paul drifts into Ironwood with Train 303.  As soon as his tail end clears the eastern turnout, Train 312 will depart eastward to Mount St. Helens.
We thank Bernie for the great images!

Passenger 2 holds priority over the RP&M train.

The passengers arrive Glen Hammond.

Marcel's E-unit grabs this railfan's attention.

Rat 70 is now cleared out from Glen Hammond

The train gets underway.

The crew follows its train around the big curve at Bellamy.

We peer at the video action in the Glen.

We follow along with the crew of 302 at Bell.

They are seeking clearance eastward to Peter's Pond.

Travelling along Track 4 they will be departing the yard in short order.

Listen in on the conversation between the crew and dispatch with regard to work in Cedar Rock out from Peter's Pond on this video.

Let's head over to Cedar Rock.

The  crew of 327 work the industries without the advantage of a runaround track.

They had to determine their moves back down in Peter's Pond before attacking the branch.

Chris and Pete have handled the job perfectly!

Cedar Rock video.

Stock cars are on the move...

...as Paul and Pat switch out Spruce.

It's most unusual to watch a unit of the "F" variety switching...

...due to limited visibility back down the rear of the locomotive, but the crew handles the chores very well.

Video from Spruce.

Yet another meet on the railroad.

Train 301 is free to depart Mount St. Helens following its date with Passenger 2.

Video of the meet.

Train 327 plies the rails in "The Corners".

This heavily foliated area offers wonderful backdrops for railfan images.

Train 301 is in the lower foreground as 327 works its way out of "The Corners".

Lots of tanker traffic on 301.

The stockcars are placed where they should be...directly behind the SOO LINE locomotive.

327 climbs the grade up to Bell where they meet an opposing counterpart, Train 302.  301 continues its trek into Ironwood.

Dual trains on the move in this video!

With the arrival of 327 at Watkins Siding...

...Train 302 is cleared eastbound into Peter's Pond.

Bernie's locomotive encounters no issues on the downward grade.

The crew takes a dip into "The Corners".

Video review of the meet.

Train 65 has reached Bell.

Following its work, the crew will depart back along RP&M rails as Train 66.

65 says hello to 327.

Bell video!

CN switcher 7960 works the western end of Bell.

Two smart looking endcabs respect each other immensely.

The RP&M crew enter the interchange area...

...while the IPP&W crew places a car onto Track 3.

While Bell may appear congested at the moment, all trains are able to move about with ease.

More video from Bell.

Len takes us on a tour...

...of the "armstrong" turntable.

Yes, Len does have "strong arms"!

Yet another train being ready for action!

Len is the main actor in this video!

Here's Bernie and Pat playing "The Waiting Game" at Nelson Yard.  Thanks Bernie for the great pics!

All the best, Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
