Pat's Pics of the Week That Was

Pics From Pat From Saturday

Pat has kindly sent along a small handful of images of 301 which was running light into Nelson Yard.  I believe this is a "first".  At least I cannot recall 301 being this light upon termination at the big yard in my many years of coming out to the sessions.

Pat also has set up a YouTube channel showcasing the videos he takes from the sessions.  Rather than imbedding the videos, you simply have to click on the links to view each one.

I will offer a couple of photo snippits from the videos each time as well.  Thanks for sharing these with us Pat. I have also added a few photos and videos I had snapped from the session to help lengthen this blog posting.

Pat's shortest of trains is spotted just beyond the stone wall beneath the white reefer and the small gondola loaded with timbers.  301 is "light" departing Spruce and is currently downgrade on Clarke Hill.

Through the pedestrian crossing, the train will reach Blockhouse momentarily...

...and, then out from Blockhouse, Pat will travel around the big bend at Lilly, traverse Brennan Gap for a second time atop the Fred Mills Trestle and arrive Nelson Yard with no birthday presents of freight cars for the Nelson yardmaster!

I managed to snip these next four images from Pat's incredible video.  We catch his train having navigated the big bend at Lilly.

Onto the aforementioned trestle.

I wonder if The Doobie Brothers would write a song entitled, "Short Train Running?"

Taking the turnout into Nelson Yard in the early morning rays of the sun.

Pat managed to capture this meet down in Peter's Pond.  The ore train with a lovely locomotive will be passing IPP&W train 311.

Mark, love the stack on the caboose!  (Inside joke!)

Check out Pat's video of the meet at this link which you will have to copy and paste into your browser:

I will now add a number of images to help lengthen the blog.  We catch Henk organizing things in Nelson Yard in the early hours of the morning.

This UP puppy imitates the sun in the sky as it helps to illuminate the railroad's dawn hours.

We never tire of looking at this beauty, the depot in Spruce.

302's power is sandwiched between a number of freight cars up in Cedar Rock.

Oops!  Looks like something is in the way of the passenger train!

Hey, Robin!  So great to see you!  Robin crewed alone on 318.

Henk is a "Gramps" and he hopes to bring his grandson, Mason, out to run trains again sometime soon!

The ore dock contains the loads for now.  Must be mid morning as the empties are long gone.

Judging by the time on the clock mid-morning with this IPP&W train facing west in Mount St. Helens, it must be 303 out from Craig Leigh.

Love the array of fall colours seen here!

Yummy!  Bacon for breakfast!

Such a jewel of a car found up in Cedar Rock.

Moe's power facing east at this time of day must mean he is aboard 304 on Track 4 in Bell having just arrived from up the hill in Firgrove.

A lovely specimen I don't believe I have seen before!

A very interesting drop bottomed gon!

Yardmaster assistant Len works the throat at Ralph Yard.

Love the locomotive, Len!

An ethereal meet...not a true one...but beautiful nonetheless.

My tongue and this cake selection will be holding an imminent "meet" right after I snap the picture!  (Big grin!)  Happy Birthday Henk!!!  (Thanks so much for saving a piece for me...a lovely gesture and I am deeply touched!)

What have we here?  Sid, Moe and Pat follow the action as the ore train arrives from the west and meets an opposing IPP&W crew.

Hi Moe!

Cool shirt, Moe!

Bernie and Sid check things out up in Cedar Rock.

Looks like Gramps is getting a workout!

Time for some snippits from video work.

We catch Bernie's passenger run in behind Ironwood Brick.

On into Wellington Lake.

Videotape of Bernie's run.

Hey, lookee here!

We're in Nelson Yard...

...where the ore train has just arrived behind that beautiful White Pass & Yukon diesel.

The White Pass being monitored on video.

Bernie hauls the Pool Train into Bell.

She's a beauty, Bernie!

Coming to stop at the station.

Then it will be over to RP&M rails in short order.

Bell video footage.

We find Moe here as well.

He is working the east end of Bell at the moment.

More video scenes from Bell.

Pool Train 15 gets underway.

The train is dwarfed by the massive Brunt's Brewing Company.

Going away!

Finding RP&M rails.

Pool Train 15 on video tape.

Having met the Pool Train down in Rat Portage, RP&M 67 ascends the grade out from Pratt's Bottom.

Pat's power impresses us on this day.

She's a shorty train, but a goodie one!

RP&M video reels.

Meanwhile, at the oasis...

...the camels are...(we'll leave that one alone, shall we!)

Mark is all smiles as he hauls the ore train into Nelson Yard.

Cool video monitoring of the gang!

Henk poses beneath his homeland's flag.  Great to see the nation flying proudly on Henk special day.

Lovely video at the end of the session

Thanks again Pat for sending along your images from the lightest 301 we have ever seen and your great video footage!
All the best, Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
