Session #14 Second Viewings

Further Viewings From Session #14.

Fourteen sessions into the season and we are already beyond mid-September.

The winds of winter are a long way off as the shorter days of fall will be here by our next session.

Indeed, the seasons will be a-changing this week.

This compact switcher found along the terminal tracks in Craig Leigh encounters no issues working the passenger and the freight tracks.

She is busy making order out of the caboose track in Douglas Yard.

The safety stripes truly stand out on the hood ends of this Ironwood Road center cab.

This "water tower" was spotted in Craig Leigh.  Hmmm...must have been erected recently!

Perhaps the milk car will fill the water tower to lighten its caffeine load!

We've seen this duo before in our first posting regarding this session.

Aha...here is the culprit...Sir Marcel of water tower and mu'ing fame!

Here's another great shot of Sid and Jean from last Saturday!

Another look at two of our friends working construction across the street from Fred's place.  They were totally impressed with the railroad!

Ore Train Bob has made his arrival with carrying case in hand - or...over his shoulder!

Firgrove begins to wake up as things start to get going with the set up.

Ralph Yard sees a variety of rail cars in the early morning hours.

Hamer Manufacturing sees two cars spotted and ready to depart on the next RP&M train out.

Bud-Lite Gouda is home to two Canadian neighbours at the moment.

The tracks at Anderson will see action when the trains begin to run the rails.

The head end of 303 and the tail end of 304 are found on the staging tracks in Glen Hammond.

304's power delights this railfan who has always admired the SOO LINE white, black & red livery.

Both the Glen and Nelson Yard will will see a great deal of action throughout the morning's session.

See what I mean!  Grant & Kris arrive with 302 while Bill and Mark control all traffic in the big yard.

With Bob off in the distance with the ore run, Mark and Bill continue building and breaking down consists in the ever evolving world of the yard master.

Yardmaster video efforts.

The ore train runs past Mercer Siding with Peter's Pond in the distance.

Bob sets the manual turnout once through the siding.  It is always "right hand running" through Mercer.

Ore train video movements.

Moe is now on to his second trick of the morning - Train 314, freshly minted and on its way east.

Having built 314's consist and seeing it's exit from the yard, George is able to get on to some more pressing needs.

We catch him working the combine which will be required on a further passenger run.  It came in earlier on Passenger 1 where it required turning and it will head out later in the morning aboard Passenger 4.

Video work up in Firgrove.

RP&M Train Rat 61 finds its way into Rat Portage.

Mike is the Lone Ranger on this day crewing by himself on Train 61.  He meets his RP&M counterpart, Train 72 commanded by Chris & Jonah.

72 had been holding the main for 61's arrival offering up the passing track closest to the main yard tracks.

Rat Portage video efforts.

Following a handshake in Rat Portage with his colleagues aboard the outbound train, Mike makes his way towards the junction.

Video efforts with our RP&M train.

Knowing that he had two set-outs at Anderson, Mike had pre-planned the moves and placed the two drops immediately behind his locomotive so that the remaining length of his train could be held on the RP&M main across the junction and not interfere with other train movements.
Note in the image above - an IPP&W train has been stopped just outside the western throat of Nelson Yard.  Typically this would impede the switching required at Anderson but fortunately for both crews there was no traffic on the Bud-Lite Gouda siding and Mike was able to use it as a lead into the two trailing sidings at Anderson.

While all this was taking place, 301 was leaning into the curve at Lilly bound for Nelson Yard.

Junction video efforts.

Ore is on the move at "The Ledges".

Video of the ore train's climb up to Firgrove.

Seanna and Steve are now aboard Pool Train 33.

They have a station stop at Bellamy.

Mike chats them up on video.

Let's do a double take of that last video.  Mike has finished his moves at Anderson and has made it back onto his train across the junction where he must await clearance to move once Pool Train 33 departs the scene.

A "second take" of the junction video.

Let's step back earlier in the morning where we catch this artsy shot of Paul and Andrew pre-ops.

Moe, Pete & Marcel have made their way to the lounge before the session begins.

Jonah with his dad, Chris, await Fred's instructions on the day.

It's an honourable crew assembled today - as is always the case.

Bill searches out a seat in the house!

RP&M 71 is stealing away from Nelson Yard.

Kris and Grant have 302 in Bell off by the fence as Moe works Glen Hammond before departing aboard Train 303.

Hamer is at Hamer!

Rat 61 continues with its efforts in the Glen following the departure of Trains 303 & 304.

Nelson Yard appears all neat and tidy at the moment.

Steve has brought Passenger 2 into the Glen where he will await his meet with Passenger 1.

Seanna has now arrived with Passenger 1 in a view that will delight passenger fans near and far!

Later, Passenger 1 finds the station track at Bell.

The Nelson Yard - Bell Turn of the RP&M has completed its work at Stuart and will be underway for Rat Portage in short order.

There could very well be a meet of both RP&M trains once again...

...or perhaps Jonah and Chris will have their work completed before Mike arrives.

This looks to be the case!

With a green signal they are underway.

Mike follows in short order once his work has been completed in Rat and at Anderson.

Entering the western yard throat.

The Nelson crew has lined me in on a track as Bill and Mark watch on and Pete re-rails a locomotive.

Nelson Yard arrival on video.

The best laid plans of mice and men.

My train is asked to reverse and take a different siding as there was traffic at the far end of the earlier siding.  No worries - no inconvenience.

Continued yard video at Nelson.

Pool Train 33 meets 314 at Watkins Siding.

Being a passenger run, the Pool Train is granted priority and it proceeds up the grade into Bell.

Watkins Siding video.

We spot Andrew, Grant and Kris meeting at Spruce.

The "Darth Vader" leader has 312 tagging along with him while the "White Knight" observes the stealth passage of the opposing train.

With a clear alley, 313 is able to depart the scene.

Dilip offers up his greetings for our blogger crowd.

Spruce is a railfan's hotspot at the moment!

Video movements at Spruce.

Kris has to pass the throttle over to Grant as he must leave for another engagement while Dilip looks on.
We had been teasing Grant by telling Kris it is okay for him to leave - we'll look after Grant who must now run on his own!  😁

Having departed Spruce, 313 is at the precipice of the Clarke Grade.

It will be downward sailing for the crew until they bottom out at the pedestrian crossing.

Video of 313's passage out from Spruce.

Once the crew levels out it will slingshot back upgrade at Blockhouse.

Video of 313's downward stroll.

At another place at another time we discover 314 making its way into Peter's Pond.

With it entrance into "The Pond" achieved the crew will come to a stop...

...where they will meet Train 311.  313's engineman Moe is seen to the right while Pete (bending down) and Marcel ready themselves to work the lower Pond area.  They will not ride up the Cedar Rock Branch on this day.

Pond video at work!

313 sits patiently awaiting its turn to pull its power out onto the main.

In the interim, 311 drills the team track and the Norton Fishery facility.

Dual power...

...makes this railfan's day worthwhile!

Continued Pond video presence!

We fly over to Craig Leigh where we spot our center cab working the caboose tracks.

She's nary a bit bigger than the vans she's a-pulling!

In behind we spot Sid's TH&B Geep "sans stanchions".

A colourful location indeed!

Douglas Yard happenings as glimpsed on video.

Over at Nelson Yard I am able to get a mug shot of this diminutive 25-tonner belonging to Mark.

Mark tells me he enjoyed working Nelson Yard.
I recommend all operators sign up for yard duty in Nelson at some point in the season where Garry, Bill or Henk would love to share their expertise with you!

Yard activities discovered in this video release!

George's CN switcher handles the chores up in Firgrove.

Steve & Seanna's Geep will see service on the passenger runs today.

Sid and Doug enjoy each other's company in and around Douglas Yard.

Another shot of Sid's power.

The yard tracks are kept tidy by this committed crew!

Looks like they are having a ton of fun!

Ore a-plenty at the Northland Ore Dock - ready to go out on the next steamship carrier.

The enginehouse roof is up.

It is equipped with power to recharge the locomotives.

Paul takes in the sunshine because he has a sunny disposition!

RP&M 73 has cleared the junction on approach to Rat Portage.  The crew will reach Stuart eventually where they will turn their locomotive and become Train 74.

Two distinct freight cars have found a temporary home on the Ironwood Brick siding.

St. Helens is home to these five cars.

Another view of Marcel's locomotives down in Peter's Pond.

Looking good, Marcel!

There's skipper Bob!

Sid's TH&B locomotive keeps on working to the east in Craig Leigh.

Some fine food ingredients have found their way to the Scobie siding.

Cedar Rock's trailing sidings in dappled shade.

There's that cool looking pair once more!

Pool Train 33 makes a station stop down in Rat Portage - drenched in sunshine.

George scans his yard at Firgrove - Ralph Yard.

Chris's Geep in what Marcel has referred to as the "Lazy Three" logo has reached Rat.

Mike is impressed with this B&M beauty!

The Grand Trunk Road makes an appearance in Ralph Yard.

As does this CN triple domer!

Another view of this beauty!

And...yet another CN friend.

Bob videos the action for his YouTube Channel.

We check out Grant's motive power on the day.

She reflects the sun so beautifully!

Lovely Grant.

For our blogger visitors, my wife, Lisa, and I visited the grounds of Rideau Hall the next day on the Sunday morning.

I snapped this photo of the plaque for the Red Oak planted many decades ago by the then Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip.

Countless trees on the grounds of Rideau Hall where our Governor General resides have been planted by visiting heads of states over the years.

I've spotted an Inuksuk.

Lovely!

The information plaque.

Many of the functions are listed above.

Wonderful.

Our reason for visiting these grounds is because the Army Run is taking place.  Note the three water sprayers to cool down the runners as they pass by.

Video footage of the misting station.

One of the race volunteers poses with our friend, Stephanie.

Stephanie's brother is running the 10K race.

We're early and there are few people on the grounds.

The entrance to Rideau Hall.

Some of the gardens.

Video views.  We are proud of all participants - especially those who served and sacrificed.
My camera battery died as I was filming this wonderful lady participant.  I am so proud of her!

More video.

Still more video taken of the run where we cheer on Stephanie's brother, David.

Way to go!

Awesome!

The sign outside the gates to Rideau Hall.

Another volunteers with a cowbell.

Way to go!  Love the video.

More footage on video where we catch up with David once more.

Still more video views outside the grounds as the race continued on to the neighbouring streets.

Quite the crowd of folks.

Stephanie has cheered on her brother, David, and all the other runners.
My daughter Alison informed me that this morning the President of the Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, visited Rideau Hall for a brief ceremony.
Thanks for taking the time out to watch these videos of incredible people giving up their entire morning to run the race to help with generating further funding which serves to improve the situation for all of our veterans.

On behalf of Father Fred we wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for checking in on yet another blog entry!
All the best, Mike, Fred and the entire OVGRS pack
