Pictures Sent Our Way From Chris and Other Scenes
Chris sent these few pics our way.
He also shared two videos which, at this point, will not allow me to upload to Blogger.
It's always nice to get material from our operators.
It's great to see their 'viewpoints' from the various train operating sessions!
Here's Chris now.
Ellens Elevators dominates the landscape at Lilly.
Here is the amazing load of tractors Chris put together on the flat car.
Ralph is dressed warmly for the weather.
He is working the wye in Craig Leigh.
It must be near to the end of the session as the signal light governing trains which exit Craig Leigh is 'dark'.
Chris brought out this Union Pacific gem.
Railfans get excited when they spot unique power and this is most definitely that!
The train leans into the big curve out from Ironwood.
The tail end.
Earlier in the day, the ore train made its way east lifting loaded ore cars from the various mines along the route of the IPP&W.
We spot the crew making the run out from Nelson Yard.
They had picked up ore from the Fallentree Mine.
You can just pick out the mine to the left of the Blockhouse in beyond the trestle web.
The tail end clears the span as the train is well on its way to its next mine stop at Ironwood.
To make the entry a little longer how about we head back to last season in the year 2024 and check out some pics and videos...most of which were not previously published.
On May 25th, 2024, Passenger #1 is readied at the terminal in Craig Leigh in anticipation of its run westward.
The WDWD crew devoted two full eight-hour days in replacing the trackwork here at the Ironwood Brick facility and in the background throughout the corner area.
Chris enters Clarke Canyon in an eastbound direction.
If it's the early morning hours this would be first trick Train 304 out from Glen Hammond.
If mid-morning it would be second trick Train 312 out from Nelson Yard.
If later in the day it would be third trick Train 324.
Canyon video work.
On June 1st Joan dropped in for a visit.
We all were so happy to see her.
That's Joan on the right sharing smiles with Seanna!
With such heavy power running along the RP&M this must mean that Marcel is in town!
Here is Marcel later in the morning aboard RP&M Train 73 heading into Bell/Stuart.
Video footage along the RP&M line.
On June 15th, 2024 Sid was running 302 out from Firgrove with crew mate Malcolm conducting the movements of the train.
The ore train was pulled by this interesting hauler brought out by Mark.
Video at the base of 'The Rockery'.
During our first session in July of 2024 we spot this unique specimen from the former Lawrence Watkins stables working third trick Train 322 down in Peter's Pond.
Our two previous sessions had been rained out so we hadn't run the railroad for three weeks at this juncture.
Doug has reached Cedar Rock and is spotted drilling the trailing sidings at the end of the branch.
This video showcases Doug during his second trick run of 311 meeting opposing IPP&W Train 302 at Mercer Siding before heading into 'The Pond' for his first visit there.
Hey, on July 13th I spot my steam locomotive backing on to a train in Nelson Yard!
Doug must have given me a spell in the dispatch booth.
By all appearances I must be about to start third trick Train 324.
My very own video of my very own locomotive on my very own train...in our very own Nelson Yard!
Being a retired school teacher I must say that this 'school bus yellow' center cab that Henk brings out as the Nelson Yard switcher always manages to catch my eye...even if it strays from the big yard over to Glen Hammond!
Mark has brought along another unique unit for the road...this time...Alaska GP38-2 number 2007.
She's working a rather long way from home!
She has been hired on by the RP&M railway in Ontario spotted here at Bell/Stuart drilling the yard.
Video work with Alaska unit #2007.
Doug Matheson is out on the high iron in the cab of this beautiful F-unit pairing.
He is spotted riding high atop the plateau between Ironwood and St. Helens.
This video was shared with you last season, but I thought it appropriate to showcase it once again seeing as we rarely spot F-units along the route of the IPP&W!
On the 27th of July we spotted a steamer with plow up front in preparation for the long winter - still months away.
Mark has this unit riding the rails out on the high iron.
Pool Train #33 is inbound to Craig Leigh.
Video of the Pool Train making its arrival known at Craig Leigh.
With a SOO Line RS3 in care of the ore train along with the SOO caboose, this must mean that Andrew is back in town!
Indeed, this video attests to that fact!
The white & red paint scheme is a highly visible one, for sure!
On a "Workday Wednesday" back in 2024 Ralph brought out his Ontario Northland unit to test run.
She's running well judging by the smile on Ralph's face!
Test run video.
This image of me was 'snipped' from a video Bernie took of my planting efforts.
My backside received the best compliment it has received in many a year in this video of me planting more Hosta plants I brought from home.
On that same workday Sid brought out his Great Northern switcher to run.
We were all having so much fun "playing trains" rather than working that no one checked the two turnouts in front of the train's progress out from Peter's Pond as evidenced in this video! Yikes!
You will recall that at an OVAR meeting near to the end of the OVAR season last year, a vast number of OVGRS members brought out their diesels to wow the crowd!
Here's a view from the other end of the table!
Joan truly appreciated our help in cleaning out her basement of all Lawrence's train items which were donated by him to the OVGRS.
Not to be out-down, Father Fred always pitches in with the efforts of the WDWD crew!
It took two full eight hour days, but the new roadbed in "The Corners" materialized along with the two stub-end sidings at Ironwood Brick.
Skipper Bernie is doing his calisthenics workout at that location!
Bernie, earlier on, is 'test fitting' the cars to see how many the tracks will accommodate.
Earlier, the dedicated WDWD crew created a new roadbed in the corner of the property.
Marcel, Chris & Bernie are hard at work.
Doug & Bill put the finishing touches on the roof of the Glen Hammond station.
They devoted tons of hours on the project.
Pat was instrumental in our efforts to replace the roadbed at Hayes Falls.
Our electrical wizards, Steve & Seanna helped to keep us safe at the pedestrian crossing!
Here we see noted railroad photographer, Bill Linley, at his museum in Nova Scotia in an image Pat sent our way last summer.
Bill gave our OVAR friends an amazing presentation at this months dinner meeting!
Well, that's all from me now as you see me pictured with yet another assembly of musicians.
Wayne, in the center of the image has his custom built guitar autographed by Brian May, the lead guitarist of Queen.
Brian May and his father run a guitar production factory in England where you can order these amazing "one of a kind" guitars which Brian played throughout his performing career!
Here's Father Fred with Joan.
This image was taken on one of the days where we helped Joan clear out Lawrence's workroom.
She was so pleased with our efforts as she now has her very own workroom and workout room!
Thanks Chris for sending along the images seen at the top of this blog.
Perhaps at some point we can figure out how to get the two videos you sent my way to upload to blogger.
We are the OVGRS of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
