Barry and Bonnie Birkett's Belleville Beauty Part Two

In Part Two we visit Barry and Bonnie's garden railroad and check in on many of the other crews who were running trains.  I start with this image of my Delaware & Hudson GP38-2 all colour co-ordinated with the Alberta grain car and the little yellow caboose.  Indeed, blue and gold is the theme throughout most of the day with blue skies above and a gold-ribbon railroad below!

My train meets Barry's Rio Grande special rounding the double tracked bend.

That sure is a handsome unit, Barry!

We then meet Garry's train in Orleans.  I am inbound to Boyce while Garry is "away".

An overall shot of the lovely gardens Barry and Bonnie have created.

Moe and George share a chuckle pre-ops.

Paul has 801 on the roll near the wye at West Ben.  Doug will be his crewmate on the day.

Same location, different perspective.

Switching out Quinte West.

Garry is making up Train 851 in Belleville.

Drilling the Belleville tracks.

Garry's train, 851,  is the first out of Belleville.

Followed by Paul Anderson aboard 871.
Bernie and I will depart after Paul as Train 811, the third series in the run.

Here's Paul's unit in Belleville assembling his consist.

Barry has created the order of trains out (from both ends of the line, Belleville and Boyce as well as departures from the midway point at Trist Centre), in a sequential pattern.  We found the crews in Belleville to be very creative...assisting each other with facing and trailing cars required for their respective trains.

Paul's unit and Bernie's in Belleville working together.

Paul's train is nearly made up.

Before he departs, he requires an assist from Bernie and me to pull the Santa Fe boxcar from the Tatters All Warehouse. which is a facing spur.  Paul could've done this move himself using the runaround track in the yard, but it is just as much fun having to crews work co-operatively.

With the Santa Fe car about to be placed on his train, Paul will depart shortly leaving Bernie and me the opportunity to finish up building our train which will follow his across the line.

While Paul was busy working Belleville (to the right) Henk and Moe arrived Cumberland out of Bryce taking the opposing route.

Moe's lovely CP unit.

We check back in with Garry, the first Belleville departure.  He has completed his work in the next town along the line, Shaaneville, and will soon find darkness in the tunnel.

While all the earlier action was taking place, we check in at the midway point along the railroad where we find Steve building Train 831, the second run out of Trista Centre on the day.  Malcolm was first out at this location with Train 821, but...alas, no photos of that event.  No worries, we'll catch up with Malcolm later.

Steve has work to complete at the big flour mill.  What a glorious structure it is!

Steve shows off the latest yoga techniques for uncoupling ground level cars!

Ah yes...here's Malcolm with Train 821 arriving Kamaron City.

He's finished his work at Kamaron City and departs through the tunnel.

Where there's darkness, there is always light!

Finding daylight.

Through the trestle.

821 will arrive Shaaneville in short order.

John railfans as Moe arrives Cumberland.

Through the pedestrian crossing.

Paul Norton and Doug round the bend out of Trista Centre.

Artsy foliage shot.

Visitors observe the action as Moe and Henk determine their strategy for Cumberland yard.

Across the aisle along the fence, Bernie and I are about to step onto the long bridge between Belleville and Shaaneville.

Looks like we'll have to wait a while as Garry is about to depart Shaaneville with Train 851.  Paul Anderson will follow in with Train 871.

Paul Norton and Doug have arrived Kamaron City.

While Garry determines the appropriate turnout position for his "going away" train as Steve watches from behind.

Garry's is the "going away" train with the CN unit on the head end while Steve approaches the photographer at Hayes Fuels, a popular railfan location known for its many and varied train meets.

Some great looking tankcars at Hayes Fuels.  The "Hayes" of Hayes Fuels is our good Ottawa friend, Doug Hayes.

You've gotta love this "Black Beauty"!

Moe has 841 out of Cumberland bound for Trista Centre.

As Moe departs Cumberland, Pat arrives with Train 861.

Bernie and I now have clearance into Shaaneville.

We pass Train 821.

It's nice running a Canadian road unit on Canadian soil, for sure!

Garry has completed his work at Trista Centre and has been cleared into Cumberland.

Here's Garry!

Bernie controls our train as Malcolm and George look on.

We will have a number of moves here at Shaaneville.  This is the location where the Picton Industries peninsula breaks off at an angle.

Garry's locomotive.

George and Malcolm work Shaaneville to the right while Moe awaits his turn to head into Trista Centre.  Garry can be seen off in the distance working Cumberland.

Paul, Barry and John in out of the rain.  Thanks so much, Barry and Bonnie, for hosting a great afternoon.  In Part Three, I will follow my D&H unit around the railroad.  That will be in the near future after I create a posting for David's Picton layout and our regular Ottawa Train ops.  Check in at a later date.  All the best!
