Workday Wednesday
The First Day of Summer
Yes, the Solstice is here and we are now officially living in summer conditions!
Some of the "Workday Wednesday" crew assembled at Fred's to get some work done on the railroad.
Mike's job was to restore the "Rust Garden" with some rusty railroad relics.
Fred's brother Ted had weeded the garden. Mike forgot to take images of the gardening effort so you'll have to wait until another time!
Mike dug out some old plastic kits Fred had lying around.
This water tower was one of them.
He decided to place it here near the entrance to the passenger area.
Mike thought about putting it inside the wye at the entrance to Craig Leigh alongside the sand house...and...if Bernie prefers...it may just go there eventually!
Another smaller one was found in a box on Fred's property.
It fit perfectly beside the Rat Portage depot.
Now, this is a special water tower.
It is not made of plastic...it is scratchbuilt from wood.
Fred tells me that a Mr. McKenzie, an earlier member of the group many years ago built it.
Alas...it didn't remain too long near the throat of the yard in Firgrove.
It seemed to work well near the depot!
Indeed it does go well here!
A view from a different angle.
A close-up view.
Likewise...a coaling tower scratch built from wood was brought out and placed inside the wye alongside the sand house.
She's lovely!
A glance at three facilities in these environs.
Again...this little puppy must be brought indoors between sessions.
Impressive!
A closer examination.
Wonderful modelling!
I believe Fred mentioned that it was the same Mr. McKenzie who built the structure.
Awesome!
Conductors hats in the boardroom.
Pat takes a break after toiling trackside most of the morning as Bob arrives!
Bob & Pat - the dynamic duo!
Now...look who's having fun. Bob tells us he has a red tractor at home.
An electrician by trade, Bob spent the morning conducting some electrical work in the garage/office for Fred.
The two lads...
...in conversation with Father Fred.
Gaston donated these kits to the cause.
He warned that not all parts may be present.
It's worth a peek to see what can be generated from the parts in the kits.
I took this puppy home to see what I could do with it.
Milk anyone!
I opened the box for the Silverton Loco Shed.
Some nice wall details abound.
We were excited when Mark made an appearance!
Bringing some timbits for Father Fred.
Mark also brought along some made up kits that Marcel purchased from him.
Nice looking tower!
A freight shed.
The old school house!
Hey!
These kits look so familiar to the ones Gaston donated. In fact, Mark says he originally purchased them from Gaston! I bet some of the leftover parts in the kit boxes could be used to add details to some of these already built kits!
Mark and Fred!
Fred agreed to repair the reefer car Mark brought his way.
Thanks to Pat, Bob & Mark for visiting Father Fred on our "Workday Wednesday"!
Fred always loves to have visitors come on by!
Now...if only the dang weather forecast would cooperate for this coming Saturday's session!
All the best, Mike and the WW crew!
