Andrew's Visit to the Living Desert Zoo Bighorn Railroad

The Living Desert Zoo Bighorn Railroad

Andrew sent me an e-mail this evening showcasing a great large scale railroad he visited while on his recent vacation.

Below is the content of his correspondence:

Hi Mike,  Yesterday I visited the Living Desert Zoo Bighorn Railroad, which covers 3/4 acre and has over 3000 feet of track. Mostly LGB trains. One of the features is a trestle spanning 202 feet (the longest in NS).  Quite a few videos available on YouTube.

We'll post the YouTube link at the bottom of the blog entry.

Indeed, Andrew...you are in the desert!

You have to appreciate the effort it took to create this masterpiece of a railroad!

Diesel and steam work side by side delivering the goods.  Looks like the face of the SP F-unit met with something at a grade crossing!

Love that bridge!

Those red rocks sure act as a great natural looking backdrop for the various scenes around the railroad.

The low scrub foliage adds to the foreground.

A cable car makes its way either up the mountainside or down it.

We always appreciate a string of reefers!

The passengers enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside.

Big bend!

Not quite Tehachapi, but a lovely curve nonetheless.

Now...that's a trestle!

Whoa...it continues around the bend!

And...quite the bend it is offering passing crews quite a vista I imagine!

The engine facility I presume.

Real rivers.

Twins!  Check out the way the track curves up to meet the track bumpers.

Over and under!

A lovely wee little town.

Tunneling through!

Oops...now that is one huge "service interruption"!

What a great looking layout!

Andrew had a perfect day for his visit.

That house on the right looks strangely familiar from a movie set.

A lovely urban scene.

Thank you so much, Andrew, for sending these fine looking images our way.

It's great to travel many places where you can find others who enjoy the hobby as much as we do!
