Photos and Video's From Chris For Session #2
Hi folks, Chris kindly sent a number of pictures and videos my way from our second session of the season.
This was a standard gauge operation.
Diesels of many varieties roamed the IPP&W and the RP&M lines!
Who says we don't kibitz a bit during our gatherings!
Bill is letting me know that if I am the dispatcher I must remained 'locked' in the dispatch hut and not be a roaming nutcase with the camera!!! 🙈🙉🙊
Chris snapped this lovely shot of these Columbines from his garden (or perhaps Joan's garden - as I know she grew Columbines as well).
Chris found these low-growing flowers trackside at Clarke Canyon along the route of the IPP&W.
Before we check into the operations any further, I would like to wish all of the dads out there a "Happy Father's Day!"
The crew of 311 have picked up their train in Nelson Yard and proceed through the junction heading west (geographical east) to Peter's Pond.
They meet the crew of 302 at Mercer Siding.

What is Henk up to in the kitchen?
Aha! He is cutting the cake for Father Fred's birthday celebration.
Freddie turns 84 tomorrow, June 15th!
Happy Birthday Fred!
Passenger #2 has arrived Craig Leigh and has backed into the terminal area.
Bill & Henk keep trains a-moving in Nelson Yard.
Earlier, Passenger #1 has arrived Glen Hammond and will hold there for a meet with #2.
Pat directs traffic in the junction area.
Gerry hauls the ore train into Nelson Yard.
He will uncouple from his consist and head over to the Fallentree Mine to pick up a half dozen more cars to add to his train length.

Pool Train 33 departs the environs of Glen Hammond bound for Bellamy.

Bellamy is host to activity involving the Pool Train and our RP&M friends.

314 threads the needle at the junction.
A four train viewing caught in this video taken by Chris!
Mike meets Paulo and his son at Lilly as the ore train leans into the curve.

Malcolm's Conrail unit debuts for yet another great season of standard gauge running.
The action is heavy in Rat Portage as a triple meet is about to take place.
Marcel & Andry await the Pool Train while the other way freight will tuck into the siding.
Neil & Pat are at home in Ironwood for the time being.
Nelson Yard seems to have reached capacity off to the right while the Glen is all but empty.
Congestion is a common occurrence on the railway when there has been a delay due to engine issues but creative problem-solving between dispatch and crews can go a long way to ameliorate the situation.
The Pool Train is handling work to the east of Bell.
You definitely require a long reach to attend to cars at the midpoint in Nelson Yard.
Doug & Claire take a break as they observe the activities at Spruce.
Ore movements takes place in Ironwood and the two crews here have figured out the best solution to the problem.
Ironwood ore video happenings.
312 reaches beyond Spruce with a heading to Ironwood.
Meanwhile 324 climbs Clarke Grade in the distance.
Over and under video!
Two IPP&W crews handle their assignments in Ironwood at the same time.
Pool Train 33 brushes up against the foliage out from Clarke Canyon.
Pool Train antics as captured on video tape.
Train lengths extend across the vast territory at Ironwood.
Cedar Rock suggests that crews determine their moves beforehand and our two Doug's have everything under control.
Gerry pulls a long string of ore MT's out from the Northland Ore Dock bound for the various mines along the route of the IPP&W.

Indeed, railroading is fun in all scales!
Gerry, an N-scale modeler, must make a "leap of faith" to run these large scale behemoths!
This train is backing into Ironwood as it uses the large curve to the west of town as a yard lead.
Train curve video fun.
Train 33 reaches the depot on the curve in Ironwood.

We do like the look of those distinctive brown & white stock cars the CP runs.

It's "hot & heavy" in St. Helens at the moment.

Once more, we see lovely low angle video efforts from Chris.

Thanks so much Mike!
Marcel, George & Neil deliberate on "what's cooking"!
There I am in the sunglasses chatting with Doug while Andry & Bernie listen in.
Chow time!

Who doesn't love the great looking weathering on this little puppy!
Indeed, there are many great railroads to railfan in this wonderful Northern Nation of ours! 👍👍👍

Another Canadian Moment.
The Windsor & Hantsport Railway was a 56 mile line that ran between Windsor Junction and New Minas in Nova Scotia with a short spur off to the gypsum mines at Wentworth Creek and Mantua.
I have been to this railway a few times while visiting family in that maritime province.

Eastbound VIA train at Coteau Junction, Quebec.
I snapped this image while railfanning with friends in the "Friday Night Group"...a cadre of folks who ran trains on our local Ottawa model railroads for many years. This train departed Toronto earlier in the AM hours and will arrive Montreal in short order.
Of interest, while there is a station at this location, VIA Rail considers it a "Sign Post" which is a "Stop on Request" location in their timetable.

Chris sends along this lovely image of his peonies.
We thank Chris for these amazing images and videos!
Thank you as well to Father Fred for hosting us on this fine Saturday morning in mid-June!
The weather couldn't have been better!
This photo was snapped a few days earlier when we gathered on the Wednesday after a strong wind blew the umbrella down - seeing as we had forgotten to close the umbrellas up and tie them down following the previous Saturday's session! Yikes!
