Pop-Up Canopy Now Established During Our WDWD Session

Workday Wednesday - June 4th

A number of us gathered this morning at Fred's to help maintain the railroad.

The first order of business was to cut the lawn and weed the right-of-way.

Then the 10'x10' pop-up canopy was erected.

The new canopy fills the space on the patio where the pond used to exist.

When Lisa & I arrived Henk was  busy mowing the lawn...and boy did it need the haircut!

Lisa unlocks the box!

The canopy comes in a nice carrying case.

On wheels too!!!  😃😄😃

The instructions indicate that two people can erect the framework.

But having four folks with one on each corner works best...right Fred!

Pat & Henk assist.

Lisa raises the middle section to its mate up top.

Then it's time to push upwards.

Henk took one corner.

Pat took the other.

While Lisa took the third and me the fourth.

Fred is very pleased!

Looking good!

The view from afar.

This shirt indicates that...

...Billy Boy is here!

Get that dolly out Bill!

Those bags of stone dust are pretty heavy!

The stone dust is spread around the old pond area to level things up.

Fred can't wait for Saturday!

More levelling up.

Loverly!!!

Well done Canada!  💖💗💝

Yet another house is going up across the street.

Pat & Bill check out future work plans.

We are investigating the trestle area and the track leading to it.

Pat begins blowing the debris off the tracks at Mercer Siding.

Hey, here's the Bernie Man!

The lawn is looking nice!

Henk takes a well deserved rest.

Bernie is all smiles!

Chris gets down to some serious weeding.

He gets around the railroad!

Pat is off in the distance with the weed wacker.

Earlier Chris had found it in the office.

Henk is captured in action on video.

Pat is a video star as well.

Bernie loves video appearances too!

So-o-o...hopefully we will be able to run trains for the first time this season this coming Saturday morning when we run our narrow gauge operations.
The image above was taken during Session #7 last season; a narrow gauge session as well.
Robin and Felicity have Train 302 taking a trip up the Cedar Rock Branch.
Let's check out more pics from back then!

There they are in the aisleway with no obstructions from crews at the vacant looking Spruce to the left!

Felicity points out where they will leave their van as they work the branch.
Many crews leave the section of the train not required for Cedar Rock back down in Peter's Pond, but there is nothing wrong with bringing your van up the branch as in reality it could be many miles into the wilderness!

Andrew spirits the ore train through Bell on that same day.

A head-on view of the ore train.

Mark slows for his station stop in the Glen.

Dilip & Mark work the secondary line; the Rat Portage & Mattawa.
They are working the sidings at Anderson.

"All Aboard!" at Spruce...in this image shared in an earlier blog posting.

Doug & Roger have 311 in Bell working the interchange track.

That's quite the steamer they ride aboard!

Sid sends a "hello" wave our way!

Twins!

Our engine house acts as a "house for engines" in the truest sense of the word!

Here's Dilip!

Doug C. works Craig Leigh in the early morning hours as we set out the cars from their trays.

And...what handsome cars they are!  😎

Here's Doug in action!

Yes, we ran passenger trains on that day!

Nelson Yard comes alive!

On the western front we have Passenger#2 as first out train on the far track with 302 ready to follow the passengers downgrade to Bell.

Barry made it down river to Ottawa for the session from his home in Belleville.
Great seeing you again, Barry!

Doug hosts Roger who is visiting from his home in the USA.
Welcome back to Canada Roger!

Robin & Paul discuss logistics for their respective assignments.

Bernie gives the camera man a smile!

Andrew is busily making up his ore train in preparation for departure out from Ironwood.

Ore train video.

We spot ore rising above the plateau on the Spruce Sub.

Video on the plateau.

Mark's White Pass locomotive #26 backs into the passenger terminal.

Craig Leigh video scenes.

Mike's diesel road switcher saves the day for a steamer.

I explain to Doug some of the history of this diesel on video.

Roger inspects his train in the 'slow order' through the curve at Hayes Falls.

His power has already reached Peter's Pond.

Slow order video work.

We catch up with Robin & Felicity once more in Cedar Rock where Robin holds a turnout open to aid his train's momentum.

Video up in Cedar Rock.

Ore clears out from Spruce.

I'm chatting about aircraft with a friend of Jean & Sid in this video.

The crew of 301 has now boarded its new train at Nelson Yard and they depart the scene as Train 311.

311's departure as captured on video.

Thanks for checking in on our WDWD blog.

Fred doesn't sit idly by when we gather to work on the railway.
He pitches in - in so many ways.
We hope the weather Saturday will be as nice as it is today.
We have had to postpone our inaugural operating session a few times already...so here is hoping!
We are the WDWD crew of the OVGRS in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
