November Antics Part Two

 November Antics Part Two

We continue with pics and videos from our first train running session in the 11th month.

Let's revisit this beauty out in Fred's driveway!  This car has been a labour of love for Grant over the past few years.

Parts have been added from a variety of sources, Grant tells us.

Not only is Grant a master model builder...

...he's a master at recreating this wonderful automobile!  Say, the camera man sees himself in the reflection!

Before I go any further I would like to share this image Pat sent me of his father.  Here is Pat's e-mail message to me...

Mike, I am touched by the mention of Alison meeting my Dad and I back in 2011 in your Remembrance Day blog entry. I sure do miss him. This is the second Remembrance Day without him, but I will never forget all the great times we spent together and working with him when he chaired the poppy campaign for many years at Aylmer's Legion (Branch #33).

Here's one from when he was a young Sergeant at Val Cartier (I think) when he was training to go to Korea.

Thank you, Pat...and thank you to all for your wonderful words regarding the Remembrance Day blog entry.  They mean a great deal!

Let's check back in on the previous week's train running efforts.
We recall seeing Marcel's final run of the season with his own cars on the draw bar.

Paul keeps his Canadian Pacific diesel in great running order giving it a workout almost every other week.

Mark's latest large diesel acquisition is easy to spot resplendent in red.

Doug fancied the "older look" hauling the new hopper car sans caboose.  He would later pick out a van for this short train.

Pat unlocks the door for his steamer to breath fresh air.

And a little darling she be's!

Paul blocks the traffic for his train at the Northland Ore Dock.

It would appear Doug has located a van!

And...down the grade she travels!

Love watching those driving wheels in action, Doug!

Later Train Extra #7 is found on the roll out from Bell.

The train takes to RP&M iron.

It's all downhill from here, Doug!

Pat is wearing his mask as is the piece of rolling stock he has brought out.

Wait a minute...that's not a mask!
Why its the brushes on the sweeper car!

Pat gets clearance out from Craig Leigh ahead of Paul.

His train will reach the limits of Craig Leigh in short order.

We follow his progress!

The sweeper team rushes past my lens.

Onward  to the west!

She's a rather efficient little machine!

Two passenger trains line up for the race across the rails.

Grant's Denver, South Park and Pacific 2-6-0 is at speed...

...before coming to a halt!  Must've been a black bear on the tracks!

Let's check it out!

Passenger Train 27 trails Train 7, our sweeper job at a safe distance.

She is dwarfed by the imposing Ironwood Brick structure.

The reds of autumn are in their full glory!

A lovely fall run-by!

Meanwhile, up in Bell we spot a mixture of the elderly with the youth.

The elderly goes one way while our youth chooses a separate path! Isn't that the way it always is?  (just kiddin!)

Ah...but he's not too young...as he knows about the caboose!

He slows for a meet at Watkins Siding.

Is it a church meet?

Is it a city council meeting?

Is it a staff meeting?

No silly...Olie tells us...it's a "train meet".

Tell it like it is, Olie!

We gain a closer glimpse of the meet.

The CP crews wave hello to each other.

Then it's "eastward ho" to Peter's Pond!

The crews in the hacks call out a greeting to each other and to railfan Olie.

Looking good, there, lads!

Paul has reached Track 3 in Bell as Pat resides on Track 4.

Paul lets the slack out on his train as he increases the throttle.

Looks like vandals got to the middle window of the van!  Yikes!

See ya later, Paul!

Our CN passenger train departs Glen Hammond...

...heading west toward Firgrove...

...with stops in Peter's Pond, Wellington Lake and Bell before arriving its destination.

Au revoir mes amis!

A three-way meet is held in Peter's Pond!

That's quite the threesome!

Looking good lads!

Gotta love running trains!

Before we leave, let's check out a few more images from the past...taken in 2004.  (I may have shared one or two of these before with you.)

Firgrove certainly has changed over the years.

As has Nelson Yard.

The hedge along "The Ledges" is much shorter.

Fred's house remains the same.

Craig Leigh's terminal has a few more structures today than 16 years ago.

Love that tiny little village nestled in where Larabie Fuels is today.  Note, too, the long passing siding at Clarke's Hill to the lower right.

Trees, trees and more trees...plus a station semaphore.

Tunnel entrance near the pedestrian crossing outside the dispatch hut.

Love the crossing lights!

Hey Fred, you handsome lad!

Yup, the colder weather will most likely be a-coming soon!
Check in another time for more pics and videos from this fun session!
All the best, Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
