More Cool Weather Pics From Session #17

More of Mike's Pics From Session #17

Our seventeenth session of the season has been so well covered thus far.

This doesn't mean that we have to stop reviewing the day!

Why...I have more pics and vids to share your way!

The lads and lasses gather pre-ops after setting out all of the rolling stock around the railroad.  Moe and Doug are in a deep conversation regarding warmer times!

Doug and Bill don't mind the cold...they're just biting at the bit to get things underway!

Fred is in awe of all the treats set out on the table.

Sid enjoys watching the action at Nelson Yard.

I'm aboard my locomotive working the eastern throat of the yard aboard Rat 62.

Ralph works the far end of the yard as yardmaster assistant.

The junction is a gathering place for train crews...

...and for railfans!  We catch Train 302 taking the diamond with pusher service...

...while RP&M 71 works the siding at Lyon Supply.

The two trains as witnessed on video.

Train 71 has arrived the siding track down in Rat Portage.

They have completed their assignments here and held for the passage of the pool train.

Once the main was clear, it was time to head up to Bell.

All of their lading will be deposited on the interchange track in Bell with further destinations in mind.

Train 71 as captured on video by Mike.

This "overall" view of the western sector shows how Nelson Yard keeps traffic moving along the line.

Steve navigates the big bend at Lilly...

...while Gerry hauls cars destined for Bell up the grade through Pratt's Bottom!

Overall video views abound!

Over on the eastern front, Doug C. oversees all of the action in Douglas Yard.

Doug's S&SO steam locomotive sure looks spiffy with the red trim!

Lovely, Doug!

Doug's other steam locomotive is found on the siding at Northland.

#76 is already earning her keep in the early hours of the morning.

A closer look.

Our RP&M wayfreight, Train 71, enters the big yard in Bell.

Typically we would take the first ladder in and come to a stop on Track 4...

...but circumstances at the time offered Track 3 as the only possible routing into the yard.

Our entrance into Bell as shot on video.

The passenger run reaches the Glen later in the morning.

Steve handled all passenger movements on this day.

Swinging around with the camera, I find Gerry over in Bell with our train.

Passenger video movements.

A view down the yard.

Short video footage in Bell.

Our IPP&W crew departs Bell.

Even shorter video glimpses!

We're in the middle of the morning as Garry and Bernie finish up their second trick of the session aboard 311.

311 has been cleared out from Bell for Firgrove.

This allows Gerry and me to continue with our work in Stuart Yard.

Video work showcasing 311's departure from Bell.

George is all alone in Firgrove on this day.  We notice some cars in Ralph Yard as well.

Rat 62 is the turn down to Rat Portage and back.

A very nice looking specimen!

Some more freight found at Ralph.

A colourful collage of tones.

George's yard power on this day.

Ralph Yard is host to numerous stub ended tracks.

A glance over at Firgrove slightly out of focus.

With our train occupying Track 4 at the moment, Garry is cleared into Bell on the main in order to reach the station.

Station stop.

More video footage at Bell.

It's time for Gerry and me to turn our locomotive as we have completed our work aboard RP&M 71 and will return back along the secondary line as Train 82.

Number 27 is on the Armstrong!

A bit of rerailing required before exiting the turntable I believe!

Taking a video spin!

The power for Passenger 35 sneaks behind cars on RP&M rails.

Train 35 is atop IPP&W rails.

The train exits the curve and begins its long ascent up into Firgrove.

Video footage of Passenger 35 with another train running loud nearby!

Dilip and Moe still have Rat 81 to contend with.

We spot them in Glen Hammond.

Garry and Ralph have kept things moving in Nelson Yard.

A good yardmaster never lets his yard get filled beyond 70% capacity.  This ensures the railroad is working as it should.  Garry manages Nelson Yard beautifully, as noted in this video...as do our other yardmasters.

Moe snaps a number of great looking images which he has already shared with us!

Moe's viewfinder.

Hamer Manufacturing.

Hamer is working the Hamer facility!

#27 earns her keep as well.

Steve and Seanna Watson have found their way up to Cedar Rock aboard 304 where they work nearby the industry named in their honour.

The "Watson Electric" facility towers above their train in Cedar Rock.

Train 314 enters the yard as Train 82 exits.

We had coupled on to our caboose, but the couple pin wasn't working well.

The meet at Bell captured on video!

Our train orders have us lifting two cars from Hamer Manufacturing.

Indeed, Hamer works Hamer!

Our lifts have been made.

Hamer video at Hamer!

Now for our setout to Hamer.

Back along the track lead which happens to be one of the two yard tracks in Rat Portage.

We are back on to those two cars which will be added to our train.

More Hamer video work at Hamer.

Train 323 passes through the junction trackage.

The crew is bound for Peter's Pond as they begin their third trick of the morning.

With 323's caboose clear of the junction Gerry and I are given our green where we head home to complete our morning's operations.

Video footage at the junction.

We later catch up with 323 completing its final run of the morning.

The crew is in the middle of their ascent of the hill up to Firgrove.

Arrival at Firgrove.

Our final video of the posting showcases their climb up the grade.

Some cabeese hide in the dispatch hut post-ops.

Marcel is head chef on this day!

The BBQ should act as a heater to help keep him warm!

Moe, our normal head chef, enjoys the break!

Gerry and Bernie enjoyed the session.

Moe and Gerry.

Robin and Marcel.

Aha!  The sun eventually pushes the clouds aside!

Fred joins the mix.

We're all bundled up!

The Kingston Trio.  Nope...The Ottawa Trio!

The Nepean Trio!

We've enjoyed yet another fun time at Fred's!
As Fred like's to say, "It is not 'my' railroad...it is 'our' railroad."
So, I wish to thank Fred on behalf of the entire crew for offering up our railroad to us to run each Saturday morning up here in Ottawa.
All the best, Mike and the full contingent of operators,
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
