Late Season Runnings

 Late Season Runnings

It has been fun gathering this past season to run trains outdoors.

We follow up with some action from a couple of weeks back.

To enlarge any image, click on it.  To return to the default appearance of the page, click outside.

Marcel's tanker train has just exited the canyon to the east of the pedestrian crossing.

This brute of unit encounters no difficulties in navigating the grade at Clarke Hill.

Passing Clarke's Gables.

With Spruce in sight.

Around the heavily forested area.

Taking to the big bend.

Past the Spruce Rockery.

Reaching Ironwood.

Through Ironwood Brick.

On the slope up to St. Helens.

Much right of way work was conducted in this location this past season.

The tank car blends into the surroundings while the diesel unit sticks out like a..."healthy thumb!"

Encountering further track and switch maintenance.

Marcel has a high green!

This would indicate that Lawrence will be holding on the wye.

Wye?  Because!

Let's check back in on that signal.  Marcel had the green...

...and...as he passed the signal, it's aspect changed to red

In this previously shared image, Marcel arrives Craig Leigh...

...where the red signal protects his train...

...as Lawrence holds on the wye.

Our UP train heads toward Douglas Yard...

...as Lawrence descends the grade toward St. Helens in this previously shared shot.

These next two photos have also been seen previously...

...as Lawrence traverses the IPP&W with his plow extra.

Now...on to some new photos from that day.

Lawrence has already arrived Glenn Hammond and is spotted heading through Bellamy.

He takes the curve at the junction..

...and passes the patio lounge beneath Miss Piggy and the Cookie Monster!  Egads!

On into Peter's Pond.

Below the Mount.

Through "The Corners".

It's Lawrence Watkins...in...Watkins!

Nice low angle shot.

Our plow train runs down the RP&M...

...in rehearsal for the upcoming winter season!

Locomotive #2...

...and...#5.

Down the slippery slope to...

...Pratt's Bottom.

Breathing fresh air again...

...at Ferndale.

She's one great looking train, Lawrence!

Yes, she's been granted permission to play out on the front lawn!

We can see why it is called Ferndale!

I would like to take this time to share with you my latest model build.

It's an the O-Scale offering from Berkshire Valley Models...

...of the REO High Wheel Express Box Truck.

This model will adorn the diorama I will be building for Doug as part of our Machine Shop build.

I loved working on this truck project!  Aspects of the build which I felt would be difficult turned out to be easier than I thought...and vice versa!

Let's do a little background research, shall we.

Ransom E. Olds of the Olds Motor Vehicle Company (Oldsmobile) founded the REO Motor Car Company in 1905.

In 1910 REO began producing trucks until they became a subsidiary of the White Motor Company in 1957.

Over the years REO produced dozens of car, truck and bus designs including the REO Speed Wagon, a predecessor of the pickup truck.

The challenge I put forth to any modeller is to take on a build in a different scale than the one you typically model in.

You will reap great rewards in overcoming challenges and obstacles and your modeling skills will broaden as a result!

While I leave you with this last image under different lighting conditions, be sure to take some time out over the winter to work on those modelling projects you have on the shelf and feel free to share any pictures with me and I will post them to our blog throughout the off-season!

All the best, Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
