Getting Spruce "Spruced Up"
Bernie visited Fred on Friday to show him his concept ideas for Ironwood (which you will see in another posting). Here we check in on the activities in Spruce. Lawrence has been helping Fred out a lot but he was not there on this day.
We check out the process from the far end of the peninsula.
Check out the state of the rotten boards which have been lifted.
Here we see Fred clearing off a tie that is a little too high. Bernie got involved and the both lads worked diligently to get the offending piece cut off. Bernie tells us that no amount of prying, digging and swearing would move it. After a lot of sweat, they discovered that it was attached by a metal plate to another tie below. Fortunately, with all of their probing, they managed to lower the offending tie enough for the 6x8 to fit correctly.
Bernie goes on to say that everyone will be glad to know that the two sidings which had been very difficult to reach will be gone and one or two new ones will replace them...closer to the edge of the layout.
It's been a lot of hard work...
...especially in this heatwave we have been enduring!
These are the two sidings which will be changed up and relocated. Spruce will still maintain spurs in both directions. Thanks to Bernie for the images and the story!
All the best, Mike Hamer, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
