Workday Wednesday In Spruce

Workday Wednesday Progress at Spruce
Pictures by Mike and Bernie

I arrived "Workday Wednesday" to find Fred and Lawrence...

...labouring away in Spruce.

Along with Doug carrying the goods!

The track bed for the industrial area for Spruce...

...is being installed.

Lots of discussion is necessary.

Cross beams are inserted that will rest below the track bed.

Bernie lends a hand as well.

Gravel is inserted below the bed...

...and the wooden lengths will be checked for horizontal balance.

Bill arrives during break time.

The work continues at Spruce as Bernie reviews the plans for Ironwood with Bill.

Doug takes a much required rest from his hard work.

The "Ironwood Boys!"

Bill's smile brings the sunshine!

Luckily, the humidity stayed low on this day.

Lawrence and Bernie keep a keen eye on the proceedings.

Checking the board to ensure it goes in the proper way...inverted C facing downwards for runoff.

Things are progressing nicely.

Doug watches the lads in red do their thing.

Doug "measures twice" before "cutting once!"

Lawrence stands on top of the board as Doug screws the screws down.

Bernie snaps a shot...

...and Mike does as well.

Looking good lads!

Bernie Boy!

Almost done!

The decision was to bring the two industrial tracks along with the layover track parallel.

This ensures proper reach for the layover track to the left rather than having it run off at an angle which would make for a crazy long reach.

Fred has indicated that the track should be in place for Saturday morning's train running fun.

Looking good.

The wye has come in handy...for the time being...say the lads.  We're not sure Fred agrees with us as yet!  (Big smile)

Another look at the east end of Spruce (geographical west).

Bernie e-mailed these pics my way.

Lawrence and Fred earlier in the morning.

Checking for horizontal balance.

The cross beams which rest below all parallel tracks are going in.

Bernie got a shot or two of me observing the action.

Lots of lads having fun.

Weeding the front garden.

It's fun to stand around and watch others work!

No worries...

...I am sure I'll be put to work in time.

The time was short as I am brought in for an assignment...

...with everyone now watching little old me!

Back filling.

Using the hand spade.

Doug's my quality control manager.

Drawing the line for the cut.

Love those lines.

Screwing 'em in and tying 'em down!

I hand the drill over to Doug.

Bernie captures me capturing them!
Thanks for that great lot of images, Bernie.

I catch Lisa and Doug talking "sailing" as Lawrence listens in.

Bernie inspects a turnout.

The lads deserve the break after the great contributions they have made on this day.

Lisa and Lawrence enjoy a tale being told...

...by skipper Fred!
That's all for today, folks!  See everyone Saturday morning with their locomotives!
All the best, Mike Hamer. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

  1. Great job everybody. One of these days I'll retire and have fun too. I'll be attending on Saturday.
